Gibson SG Special P-90, satin cherry, made in USA 2017. This model was an exclusive run for the Japan market only, and heck, it's cool. The recipe is pretty simple: take the classic SG shape with a stoptail bridge and the half guard, add a pair of P-90s, play stanky riffs. The pickups deliver heaps of punch and snap, which translates to a terrific rhythm tone as the nuances of your attack come through loud and clear. There's a particular openness through the top end that you can't really achieve with humbuckers, which is a lot of fun. The satin finish is in pretty tidy shape and will surely look all the better in coming years as it rubs to gloss in the high contact areas. The neck is on the slim side for an SG, but it tapers quite a bit as you make your way up to the upper frets so there's plenty of room for your shred antics up top. In short, it's a party of a guitar.
