Greco EG600P 'Black Beauty' Custom style, 1977. Oh man, this is cool. The three-pickup LP has always had a certain obnoxious charm: unnecessary, but full of attitude. This dates to the early part of Greco's 'golden era' and has all the tonal mojo to show it. The famed U-1000 pickups are a brilliantly close take on the Gibson PAF; they're open and warm with a harmonically rich midrange and excellent dynamic sensitivity. In the middle position with all three humbuckers on, the tone has a particularly exceptional nasty magic to it. I'm of the opinion gloss black guitars look much better with some serious miles on the clock; so this one with a bunch of scuffs and marks, very aged plastics and binding, smoky block inlays and patina on the hardware is certainly ticking all the boxes for me. These don't come up all that often, so if you're after a vintage Japanese LP with a bit of extra steez, don't wait too long to pull the trigger.

Model: Greco EG600P
Made: Japan, 1977 (serial B777373)
Finish: gloss black, 7-ply cream/black binding
Neck: mahogany, rosewood board, 9.5" radius, 24.75" scale
Body: mahogany, maple cap
Weight: 4.4kg approx
Mods: pickguard removed, switch surround replaced
Pickups: original Maxon U-1000 humbuckers x3
Case: basic non original gig bag

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has a couple of dings on the end and some scuffing near the neck joint. Just below the headstock on the back of the neck is some lacquer checking, there's no headstock break and it's been professionally checked. The neck has two reasonable chips in it, one near the body join and one behind the 3rd fret; neither inhibit play, as well as a few little marks and some hairline binding cracks. The back has no major marks but many widespread minor scuffs and scratches. The sides have some checking lines and scratches extending most of the way around; again, widespread minor marks but nothing major. The front is cleaner; just a little chip above the knobs, some dimples around the back edge and some play wear on both horns. Overall: good condition (6.5/10)

Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, action is low, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have just been professionally dressed and polished, so they're in good shape; 8/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 11/49s.
