Greco EG800 gold top, made in Japan 1978. Whoa... that's a good looking guitar! The late 70s and early 80s is often referred to as Greco's 'golden age'; this stunning creature hails from the middle of that famed period. The -800 in the model number denotes that this was a higher end offering; so you get a tidy, lightweight unchambered mahogany body, fretboard binding and nibs, the deluxe version of Greco's PAF-style humbuckers, nice machine heads... all the good stuff.  MIJ-LP enthusiasts will likely have occasionally come across the cherry and tobacco sunburst versions of this model, but the gold top finish is a rare treat. Forty years of honest hard work have left some marks on it, but for many, that will only add to the appeal... it's nice to know this hasn't sat under a bed for the last few decades. The slim 3-piece maple neck is very stable and extremely comfortable in the hands, it's got a particular played-in mojo that can't be found in newer guitars. There's a lot to love about the tone of this one; the pickups are articulate and clear and the aged mahogany adds a beautiful airy openness to the traditional classic creamy midrange and juicy lows. All in all, this is an exceptional example of how good a vintage Japanese LP can be... very, very good indeed.

Model: Greco EG800
Made: Japan, 1978 (serial K789349)
Finish: gold top, cream binding, natural gloss back and sides
Neck: mahogany, rosewood board, slim 60s style profile
Body: mahogany, sandwich style, maple cap
Weight: 4.4kg approx
Mods: pickguard removed
Pickups: Greco PU-0 humbuckers
Case: basic generic hard case, fair quality, good condition

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. There's some minor marks on the end of the headstock. Neck is pretty clean, just a couple of dimples in the binding. The back has some minor buckle rash scratches, concentrated largely in the middle and top edge; there's a couple of dents and marks around the back edge near the strap pin too. The sides are fairly clean, just a few dimples near the jack and opposite that in the shoulder area. The front has a few marks but looks awesome: There's some chips around edge of the binding up from the bridge, around the rear strap pin, near the knobs and on the bottom horn; check the pics. There's also some checking lines adjacent to the fretboard; everything is stable as they're only in the finish. There's a handful of dimples in the top, mostly behind the bridge and between the pickups. Overall: good condition (7/10).

Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, action is low, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have some normal wear, they're low but not in need of an immediate dress, 5/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 11/49s.
