Greco EGC-900D, black, made in Japan 1989. Mmmmm... pretty. The Greco catalog changed a few times from the mid 80s to the early 90s, so it can be tricky to know exactly what you're looking at. The serial number and routing cavities point to this being made in japan in 1989, and matching it up in the catalog it seems to be a 1990 spec EGC900 model. The 900 model is the only one with the proper split diamond inlay on the headstock, but those came with uncovered Duncan branded pickups... so the gold covered unstamped pickups we see here are likely to be a mod. It’s unclear exactly what pickups are, as they’re unmarked. The tone on deck is mammoth: thick, dark and full, with a weighty low end and singing sustain. The neck pickup is rich and juicy, while the bridge pickup offers a very healthy dose of snappy top end and crunchy attack. The neck is a chunky, rounded '57 style profile, so it's not a 'baseball bat', but there's plenty of meat in the back to add heft to your tone and consideration to your playing. The gold hardware has aged and the cream binding has yellowed, so paired with some light play wear on the black finish, it has a cool played-but-not-thrashed vintage aesthetic. These are getting trickier to find these days, and golly, it's a really lovely example of a vintage LP Custom, so do yourself a favour and beef up your life.
