Greco RB650N, natural maple finish, made in Japan 1976. These vintage MIJ takes on the classic Rickenbacker 4001 bass are in increasing demand; it's easy to see why. This is a beautifully built instrument; the quality of wood used and the attention to detail is exceptional. It's awesome in the hands: meaty and thick but not too heavy with heaps of unplugged volume and resonance. Many of these models, including original Rickenbackers, need a neck angle reset as they age owing to the routing around the neck pickup. This arrived with some issues from a previous repair, including some extra holes and some funky half-fixes in the neck pocket. Our local ninja luthier has done a brilliant job dealing with all that: he's added a new block to the base of the neck; stained to match the aged maple and angled to create a very desirable action. It's in great shape now, owing to his handiwork; see the extra pics of the neck joint to spy out the job done. This one has also had the pickups replaced among other things (see mods listed below); but one thing is for sure: it sounds enormous. There's a massive, thick, thundering low end paired with a grinding, snarly treble that'll fatten out any mix with all sorts of attitude. If you can put away a Jack+Coke with the best of them and need a bass to smother with gain and melt faces with, this is your new modus operandi.

Mods: tuners replaced, truss rod cover removed. Neck angle repair: new block added to the bottom of the neck, colour stained to match and new holes drilled for neck bolts. Some extra neck bolt holes exist from a previous repair repair. Both pickups replaced, bridge pickup surround replaced.

Cosmetic condition notes: mild finish wear. Headstock has some small chips on the end, an indent in the finish from a since-removed pick holder and the truss rod cover has been removed. The neck and board are in good shape, there's some minor dimples but it's smooth in the hands. The back has some scuffs and scratches around the neck plate as well as an extra hole, as well as some minor marks around the outside; nothing major. The sides have some minor marks: dimples on both horns and the shoulder and a few scuffs and small chips near the rear strap pin and input jack. Front is pretty clean, just some minor scuffs near the knobs and bridge, some circular marks near the neck pickup and some light play wear on the guard and top horn. Overall: good condition (7/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. Electronics all tested and working properly. Frets have minor wear only, 8/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 45/105s.
