Greco ST500 Strat style, white, made in Japan 1974. Here, friends, we have a evidence of the brilliance of 70s era Matsumoku-made instruments. This little charmer dates to 1973-5, going on the 'Gneco' logo and the hardware. The aged maple board and checked white finish hint at the miles on the clock. The neck is a sweet moderately chunky shape that feels smooth and intuitive in the hands; it's an easy player. The bigger neck and moderately heavy ash body lend this a heap of thick, salty midrange and an assertive, chiming treble. The stock three-way switch might warrant a mod if you're inclined to dial in the 'quack', but it has a certain charm in it's simplicity as is. You don't see a lot of these around, so if you're charmed by it's no-nonsense old-world swagger, nab a new favourite uncle!

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. Headstock has a couple of dimples on the end and bottom edge. Neck is pretty clean, just a couple of very light dimples on the back. The back has a number of little scratches, scuffs and dimples mostly around the edge, as well as some checking lines. The sides have no major marks but a lot of minor scuffs, dimples and marks extending around the whole thing. The front has a few dings on the top horn and shoulder, some checking lines and scratches behind the bridge and near the knobs and some normal play wer on the guard. Overall: good condition (7/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is very low, neck is straight, intonation is good. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have some normal wear, they're fairly even and don't need immediate attention but are on the low side; 6/10 for fret life left. Wearing fresh 10/46 Moonshiners.

This listing is an archived entry. We love to look back and remember fondly what characters we've had through the store, so we keep them around for reference.
