Gretsch 6122S Country Classic, walnut stain, made in Japan in 1991. This is truly a stunning creature! The Country Classic is the single cutaway version of the renowned Chet Atkins 'Country Gentleman' model; aside from the single cut, you also get proper F-holes, it's otherwise very similar. This one dates to 1991 and was made in the excellent Terada factory, several years before Fender bought the brand. It's immediately striking to look at; the walnut stain radiates charm and luxury while letting the plain maple speak... it hits all the curves perfectly. The hardware has gracefully naturally aged, it really complements the walnut finish. The best thing about big ol' Gretsch guitars like this is the tone: this is amazingly touch sensitive, full of character and snarl... it's a revelation to the ears. The Filterton pickups offer an amazingly clear treble with a lot of sizzle and snap; the brightness of the maple really comes through. The neck is a little slimmer than a standard 6120, it's a little more conducive to quick cheeky licks and runs, and combined with the Bigsby, it's a whole lot of fun to play. This is truly a magical thing!
