Gretsch 6129-1957, silver sparkle, made in Japan 1994. It's so cool, yeah? The Sparkle Jet is the glamoured-up version of the iconic Duo Jet, so you get a fancy glass-glitter style top paired with the classic curves of the chambered mahogany body. This one arrived in a bit of a sorry state, but our charming and handsome tech Mark has nursed it back to health: new tuners, new nut, cleaned up the frets, new bridge, full re-wire with new pots/caps/switch/jack/wire... it's in great shape now. The neck is a comfy slim C shape, rounded and agreeable, and paired with the resonant body, it feels lively and responsive in the hands. The pickups are pretty unique: big weighty piano-ish low end, gooey dark midrange and a nice little piquant snap on the top end. It's a very musical sound, bringing a vocal-like expression to liens and chords. It's been a while since we had one of these, I'm super pleased to offer this: it rules.

Model: Gretsch 6129-1957 Sparkle Jet
Made: Japan, Terada plant, 1994 (serial 9412129-282)
Body: chambered mahogany, arched laminate maple top
Neck: mahogany, rosewood board, slim vintage C shape, 24.75" scale, 12" radius
Weight: 3.730kg
Mods: rewired with new pots, tropical fish capacitors, Switchcraft jack, new switch and vintage cloth wire. Note this had an extra hole in the controls area on arrival, so we wired it up for VVTT controls to make sensible use of the gap. New Gotoh tuners, bone nut, Gretsch knobs, truss cover, strap pins and bridge installed
Pickups: Gretsch DynaSonic single coil x2
Case: Gretsch hard case

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has chips in the finish on the end and some scuffs on the edges and front around the posts. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples and rub wear on the back only. The back has widespread scuffs and dimples around the whole body, as well as some chips on the edge in the bottom corner, back edge and elbow area. The sides have minor dimples on the horns, and some dimples and minor finish chips in the elbow area and near the jack. The front has dimples near the knobs and pitting on the pickup surrounds and some play wear on the guard and horns. Overall: good condition (7/10)

Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, action is low, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. The frets have some normal wear, they're in reasonable shape after a recent clean up and polish with no major buzz issues, but there's minor pitting, 6/10 for fret life left. Setup with fresh 11/49 Moonshiners strings.

This listing is an archived entry. We love to look back and remember fondly what characters we've had through the store, so we keep them around for reference.
