Gretsch 6129 Sparkle Jet, made in Japan in 1989. This little ray of awesome dates to the year that Fred W Gretsch bought the family company back from Baldwin, a momentous and joyous year for the brand. Production of vintage-correct reissues started at the excellent Terada plant that same year, and this is one of them. It's seriously good: the neck is superb, the frets are perfect, all the little details are just spot-on. The pickups are really tasty, you get a really sweet dose of cut and body from the bridge pickup, while the neck pickup offers a surprisingly dark, mellow, woody tone that's easy to love. This is a rock machine, it's exceptionally great for bashing out the big songs on. You need this, really.
Model: Gretsch G6129 Sparkle Jet
Made: Japan, Terada plant,1989 (serial 8911129-139)
Body: chambered mahogany, arched laminate maple top
Neck: mahogany, rosewood board
Mods: none
Pickups: original Gretsch Filtertron humbuckers
Case: original wood hard case, good quality and condition, inc. warranty card
Cosmetic condition notes: moderate finish wear. There's some minor nicks: back of the headstock, back of the neck near the joint, edge of the body on the back. There's a dent on the binding on the top side up from the tailpiece. The chrome parts have aged a bit, the pickup covers especially have got some nice green corrosion. The silver finish has yellowed somewhat overtime, it really has a stunning look and the top is in good shape. None of this is major, it just adds to the sense of history and mojo. Overall: good condition (7/10)
Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, action is low, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have very minor wear, they're in reasonable shape, 7/10. "It's the glamour that kills" - He Is Legend.
