(ARCHIVE) Guyatone EB-8 Electric Bass Red Burst 1965

Guyatone EB-8, red burst, made in Japan 1968. This is certainly an unusual one! The headstock bears a label reading Electric Bass, model: EB-8, so we can be clear what it is. But: it's tricky to find this model in a catalog, and it pre-dates the serial system of later 60s Guya stuff, so it's a little mysterious. It's delightfully quirky: the headstock looks like a mix of a bass clef and a jelly bean, the inlays look like exclamation marks, the body is a super kooky shape and the pickguard slashes across it wildly. When I saw this come up for sale in Japan, I had to have it: too dang cool. I didn't realise how large it was until it arrived: it's kinda comically massive in the flesh. It's all in pretty good order: playing smoothly, the frets are good, it holds tune, the electronics are intact. The pickup delivers a big, warm, fat growl, offering a tone something like a mix of a P Bass and a Thunderbird with a little extra chaos thrown in. It comes with the super fun matching case. I can't find another one of these for sale anywhere, so you've probably got one shot. Hell. Yeah.
