Harmony H732 Marquis, made in Japan circa 1982, walnut finish. Harmony guitars were huge in USA from the fifties to the seventies. The brand was sold in the late seventies and the new owners moved production offshore; this model dates to that period and so seems to have been made in Japan in the early 80s. Gibson were offering a model called 'The Paul' from 1978-81, and this is channelling the aesthetic and features of that offering. It's a simple recipe: drop a pair of humbuckers into a big ol' slab of mahogany and get going. It sounds enormous: massive thick lows, immediate and aggressive midrange and a rounded, slightly snarly top end. Doused in distortion this makes for a gorgeous rock rhythm guitar, everything comes out sounding so expansive and juicy. The neck is slim, straight and comfy, and the frets are in great shape, so it's a smooth player. The dark walnut finish is a nice touch too, it's got a real late-70s look to it. This might not be what you think of when someone says 'Harmony guitar', but it's a worthy addition to the legacy nonetheless. Clean and mean!
