Ibanez ORM-1 Omar model, black, made in China 2008. These are so cool, I'm a longtime fan. Omar Rodriguez Lopez originally came to fame as playing and writing for Texas hardcore trailblazers At The Drive In, but it was his work with progressive behemoths The Mars Volta that cemented his status of one of the most notable and exciting guitarists of recent years. He's got a wild playing style: perpetually breaking harmonic and rhythmic traditions to deliver angular, abrasive lines dripping with ideas and swagger, and this little guitar is a perfect guitar to do it with. The body shape is based off the second version of the Jet King line, so it's a slightly offset body with a pronounced elbow carve that's kinda halfway between a Fender Jaguar and a Maton Mastersound. The neck is pretty: it's a rich, dark red-brown mahogany, carved to a slim C and finished in satin and capped with a dark, streaky piece of rosewood. The styling is cool: 60s style logo, block inlays, split guard, wonky tailpiece... cool as hell. The single pickup and single knob keep things very simple, but it sounds great: abrupt, but thick and snarly with heaps of presence and warmth. A quick search at time of writing turned up approximately none of these for sale anywhere, so it's fair to say they're increasingly tricky to find. One armed scissor not included.
