K.Yairi YF-0, made in Japan 2020, hand rubbed sunburst satin. K.Yairi guitars attract a cult following; those that know them, love them, and for good reason. Yairi is a much smaller operation than the Ibanez and Yamahas of the world, which allows for a stellar commitment to quality and detail seldom seen these days. Unlike most other acoustic builders, Yairi are known to mill and air-dry their own tonewoods, which combined with absolutely flawless hand craftsmanship, makes for guitars with an exceptionally balanced and sweet tone. This little parlour is absolutely gorgeous. The YF series guitars were made with maple back and sides, offering a big, wide grain pattern and a snappy, precise tone. There's a really lovely piquant attack to the tone, it's amazingly clear and balanced and very articulate without sounding harsh or thin. We strung it up with John Pearse 11 gauge strings, which add a nice richness through the midrange as well as feeling a little slinky under the hands. The neck is a comfy slim shape and the small size body makes this a remarkably comfy player, perfect for the couch in the meantime, and hopefully handy for those longer gigs we might one day get to play again. The burst finish is a classy job, it looks superb and the subtle binding on show underneath is a classy touch. If you have the good fortune to pick this up and play it in the store, you'll be in love in thirty seconds flat. Sorry in advance!
