Leigh Guitars Thinline, blonde, made in Australia 2019. Matt Leigh works for a major Australian guitar brand by day and does custom builds for kicks on the sides, and oh boy, he does great work. This one features a neck by Mr Leigh and a body built by a long-time serial Topshelfer. The body is made from fifty year aged pine, so it's super light and resonant and beautifully handmade. The neck features some gorgeous tight maple and dark streaky rosewood; it's built to a superb standard and features the almost-invincible stainless frets. It's a slim C style profile with a vintage radius and a thin finish, so it's got a great feel in the hands. The pickups are a pair of Lollar Novel 90s: P-90 style hot single coils in an HB size case. Lollar stuff costs a small fortune for a reason: these sound superb. There's heaps of chime and bite on the top, balanced by a dynamically responsive and harmonically rich midrange and a warm, tight bass. The middle position is perfect, the snappy bridge pickup and beefy neck pickup balance each other out perfectly. The blonde finish looks great too, the tort guard and Bigsby add a little flair and it certainly looks great on the shop wall. If you built this from parts you'd be up for a small fortune, so if you're after a smart buy, nab this one and smile knowingly to yourself.
