Maton MS2000 DLX, made in Australia 2008, transparent royal blue. The Mastersound dates back to the 1960s and is one of those designs that has retained an evergreen coolness throughout the decades. This was pretty close to the top of the line in it's day. It's been modded with a tasty Bigsby tailpiece for some wobbly action. The finish allows the contrasting grain of the rock maple cap and Queensland maple back (no relation!) to peek through up close; it's a deep and oceanic hue. Mastersounds have a particular warm, swampy tone, and this is no exception: there's a thick, harmonically rich tone with a nice mix of body and snap. The neck is comfy and the ebony board adds a luxurious feel under the fingers. Maton are barely making any electrics these days, so it's possible that the iconic high-end pieces like this will creep up steadily in value in coming years. Melbourne FTW!

Model: Epiphone Japan Lacquer Series Les Paul Special
Made: Melbourne Australia, 2008 approx (serial 08030574)
Finish: transparent royal blue gloss
Body: Queensland maple, rock maple cap
Neck: rock maple, ebony fretboard, 12" radius, 24.75" scale
Weight: 4.1kg approx

Case: non-original Rockcase hard case, very good quality and condition

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. There's a couple of minor dings on the end of the headstock. The neck is pretty clean, just a bit of yellowing/play wear on the binding. The back has a few dimples around the back edge and some widespread but very light and minor buckle rash scratches, as well as the start of some checking lines coming off the neck joint. The sides are pretty clean save for a couple of extra holes near the rear strap pin, some rub wear on the binding and a couple of minor marks near the input jack. The front has no major marks, just a widespread array of ery light play scratches and some rub wear above the bridge. Overall: very condition (8/10).

Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, action is low, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets look almost new, barely any wear to speak of; 9/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 10/46s.

This listing is an archived entry. We love to look back and remember fondly what characters we've had through the store, so we keep them around for reference.
