Morris M-80 dreadnought, natural finish, made in Japan circa 2005. Morris launched in 1967 under the watchful eye of master luthier Toshio "Mori" Moridaira, going on to become one of the biggest names in acoustic guitars in Japan. You can still buy a new Morris today, they offer some really beautiful instruments. This one is a fairly recent example, and being a higher end model, it's very nice. Firstly, it's all solid: tightly grained sitka spruce on the top, rich red African mahogany for the back and sides. The maple binding around the fretboard and sides and inlaid checkerboard binding around the top are lovely touches; it looks very classy. The sound is dry and warm, with a self-assured bass response and plenty of natural volume. The midrange is wide and expressive too, it's a great strummer. This is a great example of a high quality Japanese dreadnought, it will surely only get better with age.
