PRS CE-24, cherry sunburst, made in Maryland USA 1988. The CE-24 was launched in 1988; the name stood for 'classic electric' and the 24 pertained to the number of frets. The design borrowed elements from both the Strat and Les Paul, and it's one of the most convincing 'hybrids' going around. This one hails from the very first year of production, when they still had an alder body. The original 'classic electric' headstock logo had to be changed after a stoush with Peavey, so this one got the 'PRS Electric' decal used briefly before the switch to the more familiar signature logo seen on guitars from 1989 onwards; apparently only 250 of these exist with this decal. This one has had a neck refinish from the original gloss down to a smooth satin, which feels amazing, but cost the guitar it's original serial number, as they were only lightly stamped on the back of the headstock. This has all the original parts including the famed one-piece tremolo bridge, which is brilliantly stable and smooth to use. The top at first appears to be maple, but it's actually alder with some natural flame; very unusual and very pretty. The humbuckers dial out a thick, rich tone with heaps of clarity and definition. This is a brilliantly playable guitar that gives and gives, and being a first-year example, it's certainly quite collectable. Lovely!
