PRS NF3, vintage burst, made in Maryland USA 2010. Everyone knows the Custom 24, but this little charmer is somewhat of a quiet achiever and cult hit amongst PRS enthusiasts. This model won 'best electric guitar' at Musicmesse when it launched; it's a really well thought out piece of design. The NF3 is a step in the Strat direction from the traditional Reed thing, so you get a slightly longer scale, some extra body curves and a set of three delicious 'Narrowfield' pickups. The pickups are awesome: they're technically a humbucker, but between the different switch positions and playing with the volume and tone knobs, they cover a whole lot of ground. You can get pretty close to a regular trad single coil with the volume wound off, or cranked up the tone is somewhere in the P90 or Firebird mini HB style tone; heaps of fun to be had. As you'd expect, the build quality is absolutely perfect... the feel is a great balance of lively touch sensitivity and rock solid reliability. The korina body is a cool little eccentricity too; the grain looks superb, plus it adds a certain punch and richness through the midrange and low end you don't get with ash or alder. All in all: it's a bit different, but it's very, very likeable indeed. Just like you, right?
