PRS S2 Custom 22 Semi Hollow, natural gloss over reclaimed timber, made in USA 2018. In 2017, PRS sourced some beautiful reclaimed timber from the Atlantic forest region of Brazil. They did a run of S2 CE24s and Velas, which sold out in a flash, with peroba rosa carved tops and brauna preto fingerboards, all from 70-150 year old unused farm houses and other old buildings from the region. This particular example was from a subsequent run of fifteen Custom 22 Semi Hollow guitars made just for Australia in 2018. It's a unique look, with a gorgeous caramel colouring, some original nail holes still on show and a combination of subtle figuring and weather wear visible under the satin nitro finish. The neck has a gorgeous dark, tightly grained fingerboard paired with some lovely rich red-brown open-pore mahogany on the back, carved to a slim C style shape and again finished in slick satin nitro. The body shape, lightweight semi-hollow construction and easy-access body join make for quick and easy movement all the way to the top frets, it's a pretty seamless playing experience in the hands. The tone on offer still has that signature PRS clarity and sparkle, but with a certain added warmth and fullness through the lows and low-mids. It's the kind of guitar you can play long sets on easily, owing to the ergonomic feel and plethora of tonal variation available via the coil-splits and switching. A quick search at time of writing revealed this to be the only example of the Reclaimed Limited run currently on offer anywhere, so it's fair to say they're a tricky find. Vintage Brazilian rainforest timber, without the ethical dilemmas... yes please.
