Psychederhythm Standard-T, sherwood green, made in Japan 2015. Psychederhythm is an awesome little custom shop style guitar builder based in Tokyo. They offer fully custom guitars, as well as limited runs of particular models, usually limited to two or three pieces. The quality of materials and workmanship on offer is truly exemplary... this is up there with the best Tele-style guitars I've ever played. First up, the wood: high grade alder, two piece and joined at the centre, paired with gorgeous tightly grained quarter-sawn maple neck capped with a dark, streaky Indian rosewood board... goos stuff. The quality of wood and the tightness of the fit and finish mean this abounds in natural resonance and feels very alive in the hands. It's got some fancy goods under the hood too: pickups by Porter and Lundgren, all wired with CTS pots, cloth wire and an orange drop cap. The A90 neck pickup is designed to be a slightly more 'Jazzmaster' take on the P90, so it's got flat-pole alnico V magnets and delivers a superb singing clarity. There's still heaps of heft through the low end, but it has this amazing percussive plonk that brings out all the detail in rhythm parts. The bridge pickup is a vintage style offering from Swedish maestros Lundgren, which is equally excellent: breathy and sweet under a light touch, or bursting with rich harmonics and body when played hard... it's always warm and clear and never thin or brittle. The finish... heck, I love it heaps. It looks navy or black from certain angles, but it's definitely firmly in the sherwood green genre. Paired with the matching headstock and contrasted against the LP-esque red stained back, cream binding and and red tort guard, this surely radiates equal measures of swagger and sophistication. This is at least as good as offerings from Suhr and Fender Custom Shop in my books, it's frighteningly convincing. These come up used in Australia approximately never, so relieve me of it before I take it home myself... dang.
