Schack Unique IV, natural finish, made in Germany 1999. Andy Schack kicked off a business a one man boutique builder of instruments in 1981, based out of Hammersbach, near Frankfurt. Within a few years bass had become the focus: beautiful, hyper-playable basses with amazing hardware and electronics, all made from top notch woods to an extremely high standard. The workshop is run by Nico Schack now, son of the founder, but this example was made by the original master Andy. There's a lot of woodwork on show: the seven ply neck-thru construction is really quite something. The ebony board and bubinga-topped wings are gorgeous too, it's a thing of beauty. The proprietary bridge and house-made pickups are excellent too. The tone is extremely clear: even more abrupt and snappy than a Warwick, with a gorgeous fast fatness and plenty of natural sustain. This one moved here from Germany with the original owner and is looking for a new adventure, so needless to say there's not many around this part of the world. Not to be confused with basketball legend Shaq.
