Schecter PA-LY/YK model, made in Japan 2014, black. Schecter have a whole product line that's made in Japan and sold to the domestic Japan market, and there's some exceptionally cool offerings amongst the catalog. This abomination is a signature model for rhythm guitarist Yasuke from visual kei metal act Lynch., who emerged in the early 00s and maintain a strong following today. It's a Mustang style body shape, but with 7-strings and a hardtail bridge. There's some nice touches spec-wise: ebony board, big glow-in-the-dark dots on the side of the neck, classy tuners, wheel-style truss adjuster... it's nicely thought out. Most 7-strings on the market are at least a 25.5" scale, but in a fun twist, this is a short 24.75" scale, like a standard Les Paul. The neck is super sturdy and rigid, owing the the three piece construction, and the ebony slab-board looks and feels a treat. It's a very agreeable rounded C style shape with a generous taper, which combined with the short scale and smaller body makes this easily the comfiest 7 I've played; it's a breeze to play. The pickups are a single-sized-humbucker, splittable via a push/push tone control. The tone on offer is dark and thick, with plenty of natural low end and attack. There's a tasty balanced growl on the bridge pickup in HB mode, which is a handy default setting, but it's a lot of fun to experiment with the single coil options for big clean extended range chord work. This is a beautifully executed and perfectly quirky instrument, if you're intrigued with the 7th dimension but can't quite bring yourself to buy a pointy superstrat, you're going to love it.
