- Guitarchives
Seagull Maho Cedar, made in Canada 1995, natural satin. Seagull have been making excellent acoustic guitars in Canada for a number of years now, as part of the Godin group they're the biggest guitar maker in the country by a big margin. This pretty thing dates to the mid 1990s and has plenty of unassuming charm. First: that top, yum. Cedar looks darker and more red than the more common spruce, with a gorgeous tight, detailed grain pattern... each of those tight parallel lines is a growth ring, the mind boggles how old the tree must have been. It delivers a warm, rich tone to match: full, round and complex with a sweet balance of strength and delicacy. The neck is a fairly slim D style shape, it's not exactly skinny but sits in the hand pretty comfortably. There's a lot to like here, it's a quiet achiever of sorts.
