Squier 40th Anniversary Jazzmaster, white, made in Indo 2022. Squier kicked off in 1982, as longtime Topshelfers will know. Their first guitars were unreasonably good, made in Japan to a great standard and offering both vintage and more modern style takes on Fender's iconic designs. To commemorate four decades of Squier, Fender didn't do reissues of those original models... they did something a bit flashy instead. This has legit gold plated hardware and guard apparently, which looks very swish indeed. Add the block inlays, bound board and a big headstock to the classic curves and you're away: it looks cool as heck. The trem has that handy thing where the tailpiece is a little closer to the bridge than a vintage style JM, so that solves some of the break angle issues that can cause string slippage and sympathetic ring. It's got plenty of snap and sizzle plugged in, with open, expansive treble and a measured, plucky midrange. If you can't look cool playing this, quit guitar and take up stamp collecting.
