Squier Silver Series Telecaster, black, made in Japan 1993/4. This is a charming little Tele with a lot to offer. Squier's Silver Series heralded a return to Japanese manufacturing for the brand, and in the 90s when these models debuted, they were widely acclaimed for their superb build quality. The standard Silver Series Tele is the STL33 and it's a normal 2-singles setup, and while this has a big ol' humbucker in the neck, checking under the hood it appears to all original; so it seems likely this was a special order of some sort, although it's possible it's been modded. The neck is the highlight here: it's been refinished in oil so it's superbly slick, and the shape is a classic round profile that's instantly charismatic. The neck pickup sounds thick, juicy and warm and it's got a nice amount of 'oomph'; it balances nicely against the traditional twang of the bridge pickup. The tuxedo white-on-black looks classy and sleek, it's equally at home in upmarket or grungy settings. This is a great way to grab yourself a great MIJ Tele without spending a fortune; it rules!

Model: Squier Silver Series Telecaster STL-M
Made: Japan (Fujigen plant) ,1993/94 (serial Q020325)
Finish: black, 1-ply white pearl guard
Body: 'wood fibre', looks like basswood
Neck: maple with maple board, dot inlays
Mods: back sanded matte, neck sanded and refinished in oil
Pickups: original Fender Japan TL Single and Dragster HB
Case: none

Cosmetic condition notes: moderate finish wear. There's some chips around both edges near the rear strap pin, and as noted above, the back has had the gloss lacquer sanded back to a matte finish. The neck has also been refinished in oil, so it's feeling amazingly smooth. The board and headstock have quite significant natural discolouration; they're looking sweet. Overall: good condition (7/10)

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have normal wear, around 7/10 for life left. Setup with fresh 10/46s, playing great!
