Squier SST30 Stratocaster, made in Japan 1985, sunburst. The origins of Squier is a storied tale; this little E-serial beauty takes us right back almost to the start of the brand. Early Japan-made Squier instruments enjoy a reputation as superb players, often better than their USA counterparts of the same era; this one no slouch. The magic here is in the neck. The piece of maple on offer is absolutely superb: perfectly straight and stable, lovely grain pattern, shaped to perfection and finished with precision... you've have to spend serious cash to get a new guitar with a neck anything like this classy. The body appears to be alder (some of these early SST30s are alder, others basswood) and features some nice subtle flame just up from the guard on the front and all along above the cavity cover on the back... the Fujigen luthiers not only finished this guitar to a superb standard, they picked out some excellent pieces of wood for the task too. The pickups are a classic vintage-voiced Strat-set. There's a lovely clarity and articulation to the treble and plenty of punch and attack in the midrange. This is one of those guitars that's hard to put down; strap yourself in for some late nights when you forget to sleep because you were too busy strumming yourself to ecstasy.
