Squier SST30 Strat, made in Japan 1987, sunburst. These early Japanese made Squiers are exceptional guitars. These E serial examples were made in the same factory by the same hands as the Fender Japan models of the era, a couple of short years after the famed JV serial instruments announced a return to form for Fender in 1982-4. This has one of *those* necks: it's a gorgeous piece of tightly grained maple with lovely concentric waves extending up the back, paired with a streaky, luxurious piece of open-pore rosewood; there's a lovely little black on the board line up near the body joint to give it some extra visual character. It's magic in the hands: the slim C style profile is an instant winner and it just feels extraordinary. The tone is great too: shimmering, sparkly treble paired with a thick and fast low end that adds a fun rhythmic quality to all your lines. It's hard to believe this guitar is over three decades old; save for the yellowed plastics and smoky chrome, it could almost be made this year. The burst finish is understated and classy, it really lets the dark board and golden headstock do the talking and just gets about it's business. it's no secret that we love these MIJ Squiers around here, and when you touch this one, you'll be in the same boat.
