Squier Musicmaster Bass, shell pink, made in Taiwan 1997. What a cutie! The Vista Series was Squier's first ever set of original shapes and models, and included cult favourite the Supersonic, a kind of reverse Jaguar type thing, and the Courtney Love signature Venus model. The only bass in the series was this enjoyable little number, a twist on the original Fender Musicmaster models made from 1971-81. It's the same body shape as the popular Mustang Bass, but with a little single coil pickup similar in shape to those from the 1951 Precision Bass and a fetching matching headstock. The shell pink finish looks exceptional: it's faded and yellowed to a gorgeous peach hue, warm and disarming, which pairs beautifully with a streaky rosewood board and the mint guard. The tone is classic short scale stuff: round and thumpy with heaps of attack and a naturally short sustain. It's great for surf or indie stuff, or pair it with some drive or fuzz and you'll be having the punkest time of all. Lovable as heck.
