Tokai A-100S Talbo, made in Japan 1983, metallic gold. Talbo is shorthand for 'Tokai Aluminium Body'... yep, the thing is made of metal. The idea was that the body itself would provide electronic shielding, reducing hum and noise, as well as resonating in a different way to a wooden body and delivering a strong, bright, full, accurate tone. It really does sound great: there's so much clarity and zing on deck, and the lows are full and percussive to match. The neck is made from top-notch maple and is carved to a comfy vintage C shape, so the thing is pleasing to play. The gold makes for a slick look, paired with the offbeat curves of the body it's a pretty thing indeed. The catalog says it's "the new legend of the guitar history"... doesn't quite work grammatically, but conceptually, it holds up convincingly indeed.
