Tokai Vintage Series SG75, relic cherry finish, made in Japan 2008. Tokai has a rich history of producing Gibson style guitars; many of the founding Tokai luthiers spent time working for Gibson in their 'golden era'. This more recent example is a beautifully made guitar: everything is bang on. The neck is a mildly chunky classic 61 style shape, balanced perfectly against the body and feeling superb with perfect fretwork and a very slick finish. The African mahogany body is sprightly and lively; it's lightweight and very loud unplugged. The PAF-style pickups add a vintage-voiced growl; they clean up surprisingly well but are most at home delivering a bluesy, articulate howl. There's a lot to love here, this just feels right.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. Note that this was a relic finish from factory. Headstock has some marks on the end and around the edges. The neck feels smooth in the hands, minor dimples and relic rub wear on the back only. The back has an extra screw hole on the top horn, some dimples and scuffs around the whole body and some relic rub wear around the contour edges. The sides have minor chips, dimples and dents extending around the whole body; nothing nasty though. The front is similar; no major marks but there's dimples and light scuffs all around the body. Overall: good condition (7/10).

Playing condition notes: Neck is straight, action is low, intonation is good. Frets have minor wear only, 8/10 for fret life left. All electronics tested and working properly. Setup with fresh 11/49 Moonshiners strings.

This listing is an archived entry. We love to look back and remember fondly what characters we've had through the store, so we keep them around for reference.
