Works Bass Revolution TW-1500, red, made in Japan 1987. This strange and unusual beauty came out of the Tokai factory in Japan in the 80s: Lord knows some good stuff was happening around there at that time. It looks a bit like a Spector, but it is an original model with it's own thing going on. The neck is a sturdy slim maple number, capped with a gorgeous ebony fretless fingerboard that feels amazing. The body is carved for comfort and sits very nicely in the lap, as well as balancing well on a strap and generally not making you work too hard. The pickup is a piezo style, with an active two band EQ that offers a whole bunch of range to play with. It's a great sound: hi-fi and accurate with the treble boosted, or jazzy and smooth with it rolled off, or punchy and weighty with a bass boost... lots of good stuff to explore. This is certainly an unusual thing, but it's extremely well executed and has an abundance of quirky charisma.
