Used Greco Thunderbird, rare non-reverse body, in rare white finish with no guard, made in Japan in 1989. If you've been looking for a bass that will have people walking up to you after every show to congratulate you on your 'very cool bass', here's a good candidate! This TB model bass is from Greco's 'Mint Collection' series, which was made at the legendary FujiGen Gakki plant from 1982-1990 and was their highest quality line on offer at the time. The build quality is great, everything is very nicely done indeed; this is a great example of why people rave about Gibson copies from this factory and era. As such, it basically plays itself. The humbucking pickups deliver a throaty, warm, full, hot tone, with heaps of growl and low-end. It's easy on the shoulders at 4.1kg. It really cannot be understated how cool this bass looks in the flesh: the white finish is aged enough to give her plenty of character, the non-reverse body is a killer shape, the two-tone headstock is very appealing, the black-chrome hardware has aged to a natural-relic look... it absolutely oozes 'cool' without trying at all. If you miss out, you might be waiting a long time for another one: this is a rare bird!

Cosmetic condition notes: Some significant cosmetic issues to note, nothing catastrophic. There's some uneven fading on the front from now-removed stickers. The strap pin on the horn has been re-glued into place, and it done a little badly so there's a bit of extra glue around that area, see the close-up photo. Ding in the neck that's noticeable to the eye but no dramas to the hand. There's plenty of minor dings and scratches on the front and back of the body, headstock is okay though. Overall condition: fair.
Playing condition notes: Action is very low, neck is straight, intonation is good. All electrics tested and working properly. Set up with fresh 45/105s. This is an easy-player, and the thick gnarly growl means the riffs keep coming without much effort.
This listing is an archived entry. We love to look back and remember fondly what characters we've had through the store, so we keep them around for reference.
