Yamaha SR-400 Super Roller Strat copy in sleek black finish. These models are basically a copy of Fender's 1970s era Stratocasters. The neck is great, it's really nicely shaped, the frets are even and low and the lacquer has held up beautifully over the decades. This one really does sound awesome, it has that classic strat-mojo and loves a good bend. Best estimate on the year is 1979, Yamaha's serial number system is a bit mysterious on these models. It also features slightly different electronics to a regular Strat: a 3-way switch, and bridge pickup bypasses the tone knobs. If you like the classic tuxedo look and want a vintage strat for a tenth the price of one with 'that other logo' on the headstock, grab this one.

Manufacturer: Yamaha
Model: SR-400 Super Roller
Year: 1979 (best estimate)
Made in: Japan
Finish: black, gloss lacquer
Body: sen ash
Neck: maple with maple board, dot inlays
Mods: none
Neck, middle and bridge pickups: all original Yamaha ST-style

Cosmetic condition notes: Some minor dings and scratches, mostly on the back of the body. There's no major gashes, the black lacquer is in very good nick. There's a bit of ageing on the chrome, although not much, and the knobs and pickups have yellowed with age. Ships with a very cool brown leather gig-bag, everyone will be jealous. All in all, very clean condition for a 37+ year old guitar.

Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets are quite low but very even, it appears they shipped with smaller frets than similar models by other brands. Recently been through a Topshelf setup with Ernie Ball 11/49 strings. Needs someone to play 1000 blues licks on it, please and thank you!

This listing is an archived entry. We love to look back and remember fondly what characters we've had through the store, so we keep them around for reference.
