Warwick Pro Series Corvette 4 Active, satin black, made in Korea 2013. Warwick's German made basses enjoy a cult following and great reputation, but they've never been especially affordable instruments. In the early 2010s, Warwick introduced the Pro Series as a bridge between more basic Chinese Rockbass line and their German basses; the line was received with great enthusiasm. Pro Series stuff was originally made in Korea, and the general consensus is that you'd have to be extremely skilled to pick the difference between these Korean 'Korvette' basses and the basic German model: the Korean build quality is near perfect. Warwick moved production on the Pro Series back to Germany and hiked the price significantly a few years later; these MIK basses weren't made for very long. You get some trade W appointments: angled tuners, the adjust-o-nut, brass frets, wenge board, ovangkol neck, thin satin natural finish, active MEC electronics. It adds up nicely in the hands: this is a balanced, resonant and superbly playable beast. The tone is in the Jazz Bass genre, but with the extra definition and punch that comes with active circuitry; there's no shortage of growl and snap and a huge tight bottom end. The satin black finish lets the ash grain show through, it's such a tasty look. These come around pretty seldom these days and are an absolute bargain in my humble opinion, so hey, do yourself a favour.
