Yamaha BB1000 Broad Bass, made in Japan 1977, natural finish. Vintage Yamaha stuff is coolest, so this therefore is definitely the coolest. The Broad Bass line debuted in 1977, so this is a first year example. The shape is similar to P Bass, but with pointier horns like a Gibson, a funky headstock and pickguard, some original electronics, cute little oval inlays and a hefty high mass bridge. As with a lot of these Yamaha original designs, the tone is enormous. There's a whole heap of grind and definition through the mids and highs, matched by a hugely thick bottom end and a super punchy, tight attack. The neck is well played-in, you can definitely feel the four decades of enjoyment this has already brought to the world. It's super comfortable and a lot of fun to play. The look has a definite 70s twinge with the natural finish and black guard; it's a gaudy and offbeat aesthetic that's delightfully rude. This was a pretty high end bass in it's day, and it punches like a boutique beauty to this very day. So, as discussed, this is the coolest.

The back has a lot of dimples, surface scratches and scuffs; nothing major but a lot of small stuff. The sides have dimples and scuffs around the whole body and some minor chips on the shoulder. The front has some dimples on both horns, the shoulder and near the bridge as well as some play wear on the guard. Overall: good condition (7/10)
Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have some normal wear, there's the start of some pitting but they're pretty even with no major buzz issues, 6/10 for life left. Wearing fresh 45/105 strings.
