Yamaha L-5, made in Japan 1975-9, natural gloss. Yamaha's L series guitars were their high end steel strings: the L stood for 'luxury' apparently, setting them above the more common Folk Guitar (FG) series, and they  sold for a lot more JPY back in the day. You get some  gold hardware, cute 'superman-S' inlays and an ebony fretboard, all nice little touches. The real goods is the body timbers: gorgeous 2-ply coral rosewood back and sides, and a solid sitka spruce top that's grained so tight it could go on a Martin Custom Shop and not look out of place. Good wood translates to great sound: this is loud, dry, warm, full, balanced, open and rich. The top end clarity and bottom end roundness is really lovely. The neck is a fairly fat soft V shape, it's pretty comfy in the hand and doesn't make you work too hard. This is a great vintage dreadnought, it would give some pretty fancy USA guitars a run for their money. L yeah.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has some dimples on the end and some scuffs on the edges. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples and rub wear on the back only. The back has minor scuffs around the whole body,  surface scratches in the middle and along the back edge and some dimples in the bottom corner and neck join areas. The sides have minor dimples on both shoulders and scuffs on the elbow area and bottom bout. The front has some dimples and surface scratches in the elbow area, bottom corner and along the back edge, a scratch above the bridge and on the top shoulder and some play  wear around the soundhole and guard.
Overall: good condition (7/10)

Playing Condition Notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good. Setup with 12/53 strings.
Fret Life: 7/10, minor wear only
