Yamaha Mike Stern Pacifica, made in Taiwan 1999, trans orange. The Pacifica has taken many forms over the years, but this Tele-esque take has got to be the most iconic of them all. Mike Stern has an enviable resume, playing alongside legends like Miles Davis, Jaco Pastorius, Dave Weckyl, Eric Johnson and countless others as well as generally being regarded as one of the premier jazz and fusion players of the past several decades. This is the more basic version of his signature model, but it's still an exceptionally good guitar. The slim neck with a practical 12" radius is perfectly easy to slide around on, you can seamlessly transition from rhythm to lead and back again without batting an eyelid. The ash body, maple board and humbuckers combine for a thick, rich tone with a heap of attack and definition balanced by a delicate sweetness. Clean tones were a central focus in the design, but this eats up a dirty amp with equal enthusiasm. The bound orange finish is both classy and gaudy; it's a cool twist on the classic look. These are very well regarded and long since discontinued, so grab this 'almost like new' example and go get a gig with the next Miles Davis!
