Yamaha SF3000 Super Flighter, brown sunburst, made in Japan 1982. The Super Flighter is a Yamaha original shape that debuted in the late 70s; they enjoyed critical acclaim at the time and a experience a bit of a cult following now. This model was made for around one year only; it's such a cool recipe. The set neck construction and solid alder body are super resonant; the neck is a slim and super sturdy two piece maple; it feels very lively and snappy in the hands. The upper fret access is easy and the neck profile is super cooperative; it's not a typical 'shred' profile but it plays super quick. The single splittable Duncan JB humbucker cranks out snarly, rich growl with a bit of overdrive. Split the pickup and wind back the tone and you're in a different world; it's a gooey warm delight. The shape is pretty unique and the burst finish has aged beautifully; it looks awesome in a wonky-vintage-MIJ kinda way. This is definitely one of the more unusual vintage Yamaha gems out there, but it's a gem through and through. And yep, 'Flighter' isn't really a word.
