Yamaha SR-400 Super R'n'Roller, natural finish. These were Yamaha's version of the '57 Strat, made briefly between in the late 70s/early 80s out of the famed Matsumoku factory in Japan. There's some really stunning grain on show here; sen ash is such a beautiful timber. The body is light and super responsive, it really feels alive in the hands. The neck is a moderately chunky 50s style, it's nicely played in and feels like home. Tone wise, 40 years-ish does a lot of good: you still get the brightness and full midrange of the ash/maple combo, but it has a sweet balance and body to the sound. These are outrageously good guitars for the dollar, don't tell too many people or they'll start to get expensive!

The neck lacquer is worn down, the pickups and knobs have yellowed significantly, the chrome has has aged nicely too. There's a few dimples and scratches etc round the body, nothing too nasty. Overall: very good condition (8/10)
Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets are quite low but fairly even, there's plenty of life left in them, 6.5/10. Wearing fresh 10/46s, setup and ready to go!
