Bacchus Handmade Duke Light Cherry Red 2007
Bacchus Duke Light, cherry, made in Japan 2007. If you're a fellow MIJ nerd, this one might have you a bit excited. Bacchus Handmade stuff is handmade in the literal sense: they're made by incredible craftspeople using traditional hand tools and tried-and-tested methods, rather than CNC machines etc, That means the woodwork is outstanding: it's a one piece mahogany body, carved into shape and joined to a fairly fat '59 shaped mahogany neck capped with some Madagascan rosewood. The finish is a super thin nitro, with the doghair-style grain still peeping through. It's extremely classy in the hands, you can really feel all the love and care that's gone into it. The model name gives the game away: this has a lightweight body with a thinner profile, so it's 36mm thick at the edge rather than the more traditional 50mm. Even with a fat neck, it still balances nicely in the hands, and the slim body is extremely comfortable. The pickups are an alnico III magnet, so they're a little more bright and snappy than a standard alnico V. The tone has a bit of that SG-style punchy attack, but it's got a bright, chirpy, articulate top end and a breathy, wide midrange. If you enjoy the rounded warmth of an LP, but struggle with the ergonomics and the weight of them, this will surely light your fire.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has a pair of small dents on the end and some light scuffs around the posts on the front. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples and some rub wear on the back only. The back has some rub wear on the bottom horn and elbow area and some scuffs in the middle of the body and near the neck join. The sides have dimples on the top horn, scuffs and a couple of dents in the elbow area, rub wear and some dents near the rear strap pin and jack, and some rub wear on the bottom horn.
Overall: very good condition (8/10)
Playing condition notes: action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. Wearing fresh 10/52 strings.
