Fender Japan '65 Mustang MG65 Vintage White 2007
Fender Mustang, white, crafted in Japan 2006-8. I'm a longtime Mustang appreciator, and these CIJ-era reissue models are some of the most fun guitars going around in my books. This one is a cool one: the MG65 model was a higher-spec take on the genre, so you get some cool features. First, it's got a slightly wider neck than the more common MG69 model: 42mm nut with a generous vintage C shape, more akin to the Jaguar and Jazzmaster mid-60s C shape necks that find so much favour. Pair that with a slab body, so no belly carve, made from poplar, which is the period-correct species, and you've got a Mustang that's a little more solid and sure of itself than many other Japan or Mex models. The F-key white button tuners, dark tort guard and gold logo are all nice little visual touches, they complement the creamy finish beautifully. The other fun thing under the hood is a pair of very vintage-correct grey bobbin single coils, which sound great. They deliver a super rounded, warm bass response, paired with a chirpy understated treble and a snappy, sweet midrange, all delivered with that classic Mustang short sustain and punchy attack. We've got an original '66 Mustang in the shop currently, and this really does sound very similar, it's quite impressive. This one is in great shape too, so you'll have to all the scuffs, dings and sticker marks yourself. You can handle that, right?
