Gibson Les Paul BFG Transparent Black 2007

Gibson Les Paul BFG, transparent black, made in USA 2007. The BFG debuted in 2006, and was a marked departure for Gibson from their usual figured flame tops and gloss nitro: here was the 'Barely Finished Guitar'. The finish is super thin: it's stained black and then topped with a very thin satin nitro, which is designed to rub and fade like a pair of jeans. The carved maple top has a textured feel to it, with ridges carved in following the grain, so that adds another element to the finish: it has a bit of a croc-skin look to it. The guitar looks like it should be wearing a big well-worn velvet hat, cowboy boots, smoking a cigar and holding a vintage pistol, basically: it's rustic. It plays smoothly though: the neck is well played in and is carved to a comfy rounded shape, and the lightweight body offers plenty of natural resonance. The previous owner has done you a solid and done some sensible mods: ditched the killswitch on the  top horn, moved the pickup selector into that trad spot, and added a cool phase-reverse switch for pulling those lo-fi dub sounds in middle position, as well as dropping in a classy Duncan Antiquity humbucker. It's a high end pickup, and sounds like it too: big wide harmonics through the mids, chirpy smooth highs and a controlled, tuneful bass. The neck pickup is stock, and complements nicely: dark and gooey with a lovely velvety voice. You also get a cool 90s era brown and pink Gibson case. Big Feels Guaranteed.
