Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s Tobacco Sunburst 1999
Gibson Les Paul Standard, tobacco burst, made in USA 1999. There's something very right about a tobacco burst LP, and this one is even more right than most. First up, it's a one piece back. That's a very unusual spec these days, as getting a piece of quality mahogany that large is prohibitively expensive. It's capped with a big thick hard rock maple cap, which has some tasty subtle grain lines on show. The finish has a lot of checking and hazing: it's obviously lived in a place that copped some changes in weather, and the nitro has tales to tell accordingly. It's in excellent functional shape and doesn't have any particularly nasty dings, but it has the kind of finish wear folks pay thousands for from the Murphy Lab. Frankly, it's gorgeous. Being a 60s style model, this has a reasonably slim neck: not tiny, but leaning towards the built-for-speed end of the LP spectrum. The pickups are good too: the neck is clear and full with a glassy top end, while the bridge is pretty hot and spicy with a slicing treble and plenty of grunt in the midrange. This one is sure to set some pulses racing, so nab it and breaks some hearts, you sly fox.
