Tokai Limited Edition ST36 Hot Pink 1992
Tokai ST36. hot pink, made in Japan circa 1992. Wowsers, that's pink. Tokai stuff has long been good; they really started to hit their stride in the 1970s and were giving USA guitars a very thorough scare in terms of build, finish, feel and sound. This one dates to the early 90s, going on logos, serial and hardware, and while it wasn't a super-high-end offering at the time, it's nicely put together. The neck is slim, quick and comfy, the hardware is sturdy and reliable and it feels very reassuring and agreeable in the hands. The pickups are sweet too: the single coils are pretty 60s-style, with a chiming slice up top and an airy, open midrange. The humbucker is a little hotter and offers a creamy, punchy growl. The black-on-pink look is super fun, especially with the matching headstock and dark rosewood board... flashy, but classy. Hopefully you can find nail polish and lipstick to match, right?
