Universal Audio 710 Twin-Finity Tube/SS Preamp 2010
Universal Audio 710 Twin-Finity tone blending preamp, made in 2010. This is a jack-of-all-trades rack-mountable preamp that really speaks for itself. You get a 310v Class-A ECC83 dual-triode tube stage and a transimpedance solid state preamp, with full tone blending control between the two paths. This whole process is phase aligned and the idea is that you can dial the mix of warmth and transient clarity to cover most based in a really intuitive way. It includes a discrete JFET DI with 2.2MΩ ultra high-Z impedance, XLR line/mic inputs and a XLR line output. Toggle controls include a -15dB pad, mic/line, output/drive, 75Hz low cut, phase, and power. Variable controls include of course gain applying to both tube and solid state paths, the unique transistor/tube blend and then master level. A backlit VU meter displays loudness information in a classy way. Everything's housed in a portable 2U rack unit, perfect for smaller setups, desktop use or remote tracking. This is really quite the versatile piece of outboard gear. It's great value for money, and there's really something to be said for the ability to experiment with subtle tube warmth to heavy saturation and high clean headroom to hard clipping transistor grit and and blend of such tones. Take it home before one of us does. No, really.
