(ARCHIVE) Fender Blues Junior II Black/Silver 2007

- Guitarchives
Here's a mid 2000s example of Fender's renowned Blues Jr. These deliver a modern take on warm and rich blues tones in a smaller frame. The first generation of these were introduced in 1995, then in 2001, production was moved to Mexico and this particular iteration was manufactured. Board controls include master and preamp volume, middle, bass and treble tone, reverb and a 'fat' switch that boosts gain and midrange frequencies in the preamp stage. Despite its small stature, this guy weighs more than you'd expect but also offers more headroom.
This particular generation shares a lot of common ground with the original Blues Jr, although there are a few main differences. With the move to this generation, the original darker sounding green boards underwent a redesign that resulted in the Blues Jr II cream boards that put more emphasis on treble and chime. An issue with the original Blues Jr was noisy reverb so with the post-2001 models, the circuit was moved before the master which as a result dials in better behaved reverb.
This particular amp has what Simon described as "wobbly knobbly jobblies," which I initially thought was a character from Star Wars. For clarity, this meant the controls all function perfectly fine but the knobs are in fact wobbly. Additionally, this was a 120v production model, but has had a step down transformer installed for use with 240v AU/NZ outlets.
"Help me, Wobbly Knobbly Jobbly. You're my only hope."
