Bacchus Craft Series Woodline WL4-JB-Ash Black Oil 2014
Bacchus Woodline Ash, black oil, made in Japan 2014. This is such a great bass. Deviser's long running Craft Series delivered their famous Aska Japan workshop craftsmanship at pretty manageable prices, so they were super popular in Japan for a long while. The Woodline basses were modernised takes on the Jazz Bass, so you get a slim, fast neck, two single coils and pretty traditional hardware. But, you get some cool very-Bacchus touches too: oil finish, heel-end truss adjuster with easy access, generous taper to the neck for speed and accuracy, a pretty pearl guard and matching headstock and a cool passive boost function on a push/pull pot. The quality of woodwork and finish on this is remarkable, so it feels very lively and convincing in the hands. The oil finish is great too, it's got a sleek touch to it and shows natural wear more quickly than a poly clearcoat. The tone is thick and juicy: heaps of midrange growl and character, assured fatness on the low end and enough chime and sweetness on the top to cut through a mix when required. I reckon these compete very favourably indeed with most USA production model basses, you could easily spend two or three times the cash and get a bass that's not as good. Very enjoyable!

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has dimples on the end and both edges. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples and plenty of rub wear on the back only. The back has rub wear on the top horn and along the belly carve, dimples in the elbow area, middle of the body and the bottom corner and some scuffs on the bottom horn. The sides have dimples on the top horn, dimples and rub wear in the elbow area, dimples and scuffs near the jack and some minor scratches and rub wear on the bottom horn. The front has rub wear on the top horn, rub wear to gloss on the elbow area, scuffs around the bridge, surface scratches around the jack and play wear on the guard and horns.
Overall: very good condition (7.5/10)
Playing Condition Notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electronics tested and working properly. Wearing fresh 45/105 Moonshiners strings.
