Bacchus Handmade Series Woodline Ash 4, brown oil finish, made in Japan 2010. This is a stupendously good instrument, it's going to make someone very happy indeed. Bacchus is a niche brand producing guitars by hand (no CNC machine etc!) on a small scale in the mountains of Japan. They quickly gained a reputation for impeccable workmanship and outstanding wood selection, and this is a great example of just how good their stuff is. For a start, it's classy woods: tightly grained rock maple neck, black-as-night ebony fretboard, two-piece centre joined swamp ash body... hectic. It's finished with a walnut stain and an oil-and-wax top, so the glorious grain is on full display. In terms of specs and build quality, this is at least as good or better than stuff like German Warwick and USA Musicman basses, it's a seriously classy item that fetched a small fortune in Japanese Yen when sold new in 2010. All that adds up to an amazing feel and tone. In the hands, this resonates more than any other bass in the shop, you can feel every note pulsing through the body and neck. The neck is a super playable C to D shape with a traditional slim 38mm nut, so it's a slick modern feel that's very easy to move around on. The tone: oh my. This has that vintage JB growly punch, but with a huge rounded, weighty low-end and a lavishly rich midrange brimming with harmonics and sweetness. The 'turbo' passive boost adds a little bit of extra output and heft, a handy bonus. Once you get your hands on this, you'll be totally hooked.

Cosmetic condition notes: mild finish wear. Headstock has minor scuffs on the end and edges. The neck has a couple of minor dimples and some light play wear on the back, no major marks. The back has some rub wear near the neck plate and on the belly carve, as well as a scratch on the bottom horn and some minor dimples around the outside edges. The sides have some rub wear along the top horn and elbow area and some dimples along the bottom edge. The front has some rub wear around the pickups and on the elbow area, as well as some dimples in the elbow area and near the bridge and some play scuffs on the top horn and guard. Overall: good condition (7/10)
Playing condition notes: action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. Frets have some minor wear but are looking great, 8/10 for life left. Set up with fresh 45/105 Moonshiners strings.
