Cool Z ZLJ-1, cherry red, made in Japan 2007. This rules! Cool Z was a house brand for major Japanese instrument chain Shimamura, who have a number of stores in Japan. They're made at the legendary Fujigen Gakki plant, the very same factory that made all those famous Fender Japan guitars from 1982-96, the famed Epiphone Japan models from the mid 2000s as well as producing Ibanez Prestige and other tasty biscuits to this day. So, as you might've guessed, this is put together with a whole lot of love and precision. The neck is quick and easy, it's a slim-60s style profile that's neither too fat or too thin and it feels very reassuring and comfy in the hands. The quality of finish and fretwork is obvious in the hands, it really feels like a well made guitar. The pickups are on the clear, open and zingy side for a P90; they have a lot to offer. They clean up beautifully, with a crisp clarity and woody attack. Paired with a dirty amp, there's a warm growl balanced by an effervescent top end and superb string separation. The rich gloss cherry finish is all class too, it looks and feels a treat. Coolz indeed.
