(SOLD) Crews Maniac Sound OS-PB Green Metallic 2014
Crews OS-PB, green metallic, made in Japan 2014. Crews Maniac Sound started as a mods, repairs and pedals workshop in Tokyo, before moving into instrument design under the watch of master luthier Crews Yoshioka. The OS series ran for a couple of years as a collection of models sold exclusively for major Japan retailers Musicland Key, offering high quality updates on some classic models, made at the iconic Terada Gakki factory. This is frightfully good in the hands: lightweight, super resonant and well balanced, with every little detail executed with care and precision. The finish is a 'cloudy lacquer' style, so it has a semi-gloss nitro topcoat on the body and neck. The neck feels super slick in the hands, a close look is rewarded by some super tight maple figuring and some rich dark streaks in the rosewood board. The sherwood-ish green has a gorgeous pearlescent shimmer to it, and with the matching headstock and tort guard... *chef's kiss*. Crews do their own pickups, so this has a lovely 60s style split coil, which sounds great. The lows are rounded and fat, with plenty of midrange punch and a certain earthy fullness. It's very responsive, so you can get a lot of variation from the sound just by moving your right hand position, fretting a note in a different spot or digging in a bit harder. We've had a bunch of Crews guitars through, and they've all been unreasonably magical. This is the first bass from them we've scored, and it's... unreasonably magical also.

Cosmetic condition notes: minor finish wear. The headstock has some dimples on the end and bottom edge. The neck is clean and smooth in the hands, minor dimples on the back only. The back has a decent buckle-rash patch near the neck plate, a dent near the belly carve in the elbow area, dimples near the bottom edge and some scuffs along the back edge. The sides have minor dimples on the elbow area, near the jack and on the bottom horn. The front has some dimples around the bridge and elbow area and some play wear on the guard and horns. Overall: very good condition (8/10)
Playing condition notes: Action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. The frets have minor wear only, 8/10 for life left. Set up with fresh 45/105 Moonshiners strings.
